A family-friendly town in the mountains
La Cañada Flintridge is a friendly, welcoming neighborhood full of local charm. Set on the side of the San Gabriel Mountains, residents get a stunning view of the valley below them. Enjoy being surrounded by nature and soak in the small-town feel while still only being a quick drive from Pasadena, Downtown LA, or East LA.
Many of the area’s earliest residents suffered from lung diseases and found healing in the mountain air. It wasn’t until NASA bought land to create a new laboratory here that more residents flowed in. La Cañada
Flintridge also used to be two communities, but La Cañada and Flintridge came together in 1976 so as not to be swallowed up by nearby towns.
Like many of the surrounding towns, the style is predominantly craftsman homes. Winding, wooded roads, and single-family homes set back on larger lots give La Cañada Flintridge real estate a rural feel.

La Cañada Flintridge has a suburban atmosphere laden with amenities. Neighbors that you know, lots of nature, and proximity to larger towns are all wonderful reasons to live in La Cañada Flintridge. It’s easy enough to access much of Los Angeles. This is an ideal community in which to raise a family, and the area works well for young professionals who work in the nearby cities but want the mountains in their backyard.

La Cañada Flintridge combines big names with small boutiques. You’ll find restaurants here that have found fame across the region, as well as small mom-and-pop places that you might miss if you’re not looking for them.
Honeybird is a sunny spot that serves delicious southern fare. Sakura Japanese Steak & Seafood is not only a local favorite but is part of a high-end national chain renowned as one of the best Asian restaurants in the country! Taylor’s Steakhouse is a family-owned spot dating back to the 1950s and is one of the best steakhouses in LA. For a more casual affair, visit Hill Street Cafe. This welcoming, family-owned place has a wide menu and is the perfect neighborhood meeting spot.
Things to Do
The best thing to do in La Cañada Flintridge is enjoy the outdoors. Bike along the nearby trails or visit any of the parks in town.
JPL, or NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, is a research and development lab that is making incredible advancements. They offer public tours and lecture series for those interested in life beyond the earth’s atmosphere. Descanso Gardens hosts the annual Enchanted: Forest of Light event. The space is transformed with light installations, and the event has become a favorite tradition of many residents of the region.
Even when it’s not a forest of light, Descanso Gardens is still enchanting. This beautiful botanical garden includes breathtaking spots such as an ancient forest, a Japanese Garden, and a scenic lakeside hike. Look to the heavens at historic Mount Wilson Observatory, where star parties and telescopes wait, along with a cafe and a small museum.
